The Day After Christmas and we
Catch up on bills
and we
try to get the house "clean" and we
Throw laundry in the washer, forget about it, throw it in the dryer
and put off the folding.
The Day After Christmas and we
let the children go
run outside
and we
sit in sweats and listen to tea kettle steam screaming and we
type and check email and wish for more sleeping.
The Day After Christmas and we
Forget what we meant to do
and we spend too much on fast food
and we feel like crying for no reason and we
eat leftover sweets and we clip our fingernails and we
Sit staring over mounds of bills and laundry and breadcrumbs and dried icing and we
Hold our arms in each other's arms and foreheads pressed on foreheads
And We
Will go on another day.
