Proximity Feels

In the stark cold dark
You look backward
You can't help it
And it feels
Warm
And safe
And utterly wonderful
Staring down the barrel of something that seems so right
How it felt when our hands barely touched:
The thrill of it
And now...
I lean my forehead against the cold glass of the car window
Driving forth and back
Weekend after weekend
To take the kids to visit my parents
Having to see the signs
Over and over
And knowing you're probably near
What did you call it?
"Proximity Feels"
When you drove past my exit
And didn't stop to see me.
