The Slow Change

Today I baked banana bread
And as I was stirring in the chocolate chips I realized
It's the first time I brought out that recipe since April.
And I laughed a little
Because I hadn't realized how much that really hurt me
And I noticed a book I'd been reading then
That Michael bought me when you made me sad at the book store
That I just stopped reading
Like time froze in some small instances:
chapters in books and banana bread recipes and music theory books...
I haven't had the strength to look at that theory book -
To turn to the next page and work on it...
But
Today
I baked banana bread
I read three more chapters in that book
I let you fade away.
I kept on erasing.
